Lack of Motivation and a Giveaway

Lack of Motivation
This past week has been really nice weather. I should have gotten ALOT done, but the truth is I have done very little. I just can't seem to get motivated. I would get setup to start and get distracted. I spent 2 hours the other day just walking around and talking to the chickens. They do talk back, but most get bored with me if I don't have some sort of treat.

I did managed to open the vents/windows on the coops to let air in. Lack of ventilation is extremely bad for chickens and as it gets warmer they need more and more circulation of fresh air.

After getting rid of the mite infestation their egg production has gone up. They have been producing 30-38 eggs per day. Good thing cause feed just went up to $12.50 per bag of layer.

Giveaway at "Life on a Southern Farm"
They are giving away a set of double nests. They are very generous folks.

Signs of things to come...

These are in front of the house in one of my flower gardens. That is a Crocus cluster with some Daffodils coming up and in the upper Left you can see a Tulip that is also coming up.Here is another garden that is DRY...DRY...DRY. This garden is full of Daffodils and Tulips as well. I will plant this garden in Annuals after the Spring flowers die back. The Annuals are primarily for Fair entries in late Summer and Fall. These last 2 shots are in a small flower garden that was never weeded this winter. That is feeder leaves for some Irises in the second picture. It really does feel like spring today. The wind is irritating, but the temps are nice. We were in the high 60s today and supposed to be 74 tomorrow. I just hope the fruit trees don't bloom. I know there has to be at least one more stretch of bad weather this winter.

Got 30+ eggs from the gals today. I have lost a few customers because I had "the nerve" to raise my prices to $2 a dozen. Yes that is not a typo. They are pissy about $2 when I am giving 11.50 for every 50# bag of feed. That is ok. I just picked up 8 new customers in the last 2 weeks when mom and dad went to sign papers for the lady that does their taxes.

Poultry Show

It is that time of year again. Spring is coming and the Poultry Shows are starting. First up is the Friendship Poultry Club's Annual Winter Poultry Show in Morganton, NC this Saturday(Feb 12). The show is at the Burke County Fairgrounds, 145 Bost Rd, Morganton, NC 28655.

This photo was taken at this past Fall's show. The winter show is in a different building at the fairgrounds. The building we are using this time is larger and heated. It won't be really warm heated, since that could make birds used to outside temps sick. The building should be about 50-60 degrees.

There are 936 birds registered for this show. It is going to be a great show. The largest in alot of years.

If anyone is in the area feel free to stop by and look around. There is no fee to look around. I will be there all day. Just look for the short, really fat, balding guy.

Another Day

Today was a drizzly and rainy day. Though they are not happy about the rain, all my birds seem healthy. That I am very thankful for.

The day is about over. Nothing eventful happened. BUT 32 years ago on this day(Feb 4) I entered the world. With my weight I never thought I would make it this long.

We don't really celebrate birthdays. This year I did receive a number of 'happy birthdays' from my online friends. That is rare for me.
